Peak Pizza? Domino's Leader Steps Down After Move Into Chicken.
The chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the UK might have reached maximum pizza demand while broadening the company into fried chicken has been removed after disagreements with its board.
Executive Shake-Up
Rennie is exiting after only 24 months in charge, and will be replaced on an acting basis by the company's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a long-term chief.
The outgoing executive, who served at Domino's for a substantial period, had sought to redirect Britain's largest pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, remarking recently there was not “massive growth” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed poultry was the most rapidly expanding protein in the international market.
Board Tensions
Reports indicate that there was friction between the CEO and the board over his strategy and direction, although Domino's release said he was departing “through mutual consent”.
New Brand Introduction
In the autumn, the chain introduced its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which the former chief described as a “bold new chapter” for the company – and is testing it in select stores in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.
While the business is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as intended, it views fried chicken as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.
Leadership Comment
The Domino's chair, the company chair, commented: “We are confident that there are a number of opportunities to drive further growth and value creation in the main pizza segment. We are focused on identifying the suitable leader to direct the careful implementation of that development approach.”
Industry Difficulties
Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said transactions dipped by one and a half percent in the Q3. In August, it warned that the food delivery sector had “grown more challenging” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the period before the budget and increasing labor expenses for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in six-month income.
Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut announced the closing of multiple locations a last month, after the firm behind its outlets faced financial collapse.
Health Initiatives
Responding to consumer trends towards better nutrition, Domino's has launched light products, such as its light base line of pizzas below 400 kcals as well as meat-free and gluten-free options. A big pepperoni bake has over 2,300 kcal. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171, while a individual has 909 calories.
Acting Management
The interim chief has been with Domino's since the recent past, and previously worked for the betting firm a well-known operator. It is thought that she is not seeking to assume the CEO position permanently.
She said: “Our team has a multiple ongoing growth and operational projects that we will be concentrating on executing at a rapid rate.”
Frampton noted these comprised ongoing development on the company's procurement system and new item creation, and its rewards program.
Domino's is also in need of a full-time chief financial officer until March 16, when Andrea joins from the beverage producer a well-known firm. For now, Snow is temporary CFO.
